LIQUID TRADITION

Much has been written of the wild, raucous side of moonshining - the shoot-outs, the hot-rodded and heavily-laden jalopies flying down curvy, dusty back roads and all.  But little has been said of the incredibly hot, hard, dangerous work it was, or of the crushing poverty and desperation that led many to do it in the first place.
DEEP IN THE HEARTLAND
Mickey & Ann Epeards
Eastfield Village
An oasis of historic preservation and education exists hidden in the countryside of East Nassau (Rensselaer County), New York where Don Carpentier has made his passion for the past a living, breathing, tribute to early architecture.
Horse Thieves, Beware!
Introducing A Simple Life's newest writer, J.F. Pirro from Quakertown, PA.
Welcome Joe!

The value of a man’s horse in the early 19th century was this: Without it he was afoot, seriously handicapped physically, economically and socially. In the early 1860s, there was a desperate need for horses, and following the outbreak of the Civil War, there was always a ready market for stolen horse-flesh. Horse stealing became a lucrative business for outlaws, but also for the citizens apprehending  those thieves.
